Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sea Moss?

Sea moss is a mineral rich super food that grows in the ocean! We use wildcrafted sea moss from the waters of St Lucia. The OG Sea moss uses the golden variety which has 92 of the 102 minerals our bodies need. It is also vegan and gluten free!

The taste of Raw Sea Moss gel?

Our original sea moss (OG) has a neutral taste. OG sea moss can vary in taste depending on how it's made. At Sunday Moss we intentionally use distilled water to help give the sea moss gel a clean, crisp taste.

There are zero preservatives or added sugar which makes the OG perfect for mixing in your smoothies or tea! The OG can also be applied topically on skin to help with psoriasis or eczema symptoms and can even be used as a hair mask!

The texture of Raw Sea Moss Gel?

Our OG sea moss gel will have a slightly thick, jelly consistency. The fruit infused sea moss gel will have a more apple sauce or baby food consistency. Regardless of which one you choose we make sure there is not grittiness so you're always enjoying a smooth texture.

It is normal to notice slight variance in how thick or soft the sea moss gel is. As a natural product the seasons and the suns position effects how much sunlight reach the sea moss before harvest and how long it was sun dried for after harvest. These are a couple of factors that will affect the thickness of your gel.

Regardless of it's texture the benefits remain the same!

How long does Raw Sea Moss Gel last?

There are no preservatives in our sea moss, therefore the raw sea moss gel must be refrigerated. The OG sea moss is best by 3-4 weeks. If you're consistent you will be finished well before that time!

The fruit infused Sea Moss is best consumed within 2 weeks. (A 500ml jar should last you about two weeks or less if taken consistently 2-4 tbsp twice a day!)

You can also freeze your Sea Moss up to 6 months!

Tip: Do not freeze your raw sea moss gel in the glass mason jars. The glass may crack or shatter in the freezer. Separate the raw sea moss gel into silicone ice cube trays so they can be easily portioned and removed to use in tea or smoothies.

How do I know if my Raw Sea Moss Gel is spoiled?

You can check for spoilage by smelling or visually checking for these signs: a pungent smell. If the sea moss develops a smell different from when you first opened the jar it may have gone bad. You may also see a film develop on top with specks of mold. Refer to the question above to get the most use from your sea moss!

How clean is your sea moss preparation process?

As a raw product without any preservatives or HPP, meticulous hygiene practice is essential for sea moss preparation to provide maximum benefits and increase the life of the product.

Distilled water is a crucial part of our soaking process. This allows us to remove any excess dirt and debris remaining after the initial harvest and cleaning process. Distilled water also allows us to provide the best tasting sea moss without any contaminations of chemicals, metals and other undesired traces existing in other water sources. Raw sea moss gel is a sensitive product in it's ability to absorb tastes and smells which is why we will never use other types of water.

We use glass jars that have been thoroughly and then boiled to further sterilize the jars before pouring the handcrafted sea moss gel. This step allows the raw sea moss gel to last longer.

The difference between Gold and Purple sea moss?

The colour difference is due to where it grows in the ocean.

The purple sea moss variety is grows deeper in the ocean where the sun light does not hit the sea moss. Purple contains more nutrients and is higher in antioxidants!

This also means the purple strains taste much stronger!

The gold colour occurs naturally when sea moss is growing closer to the surface of the water.

How many servings for the 500ml and 1L jars?

The 500ml jar contains approximately 32 tablespoons, of course the size of your spoon and scoop will vary! At 2 tbsp per day you should be done in about 2 weeks. The 1L jar is double the amount. So 64 tablespoons should last approximately 4 weeks at 2 tbsp per day, or 2 weeks at 4 tbsp per day.

How much sea moss is in the jar?

Regardless of which you get, flavoured or unflavoured all jars have minimum 80% sea moss, or more.

Generally, the thicker your gel the more sea moss is in your jar, but keep in mind that depending on the season, and if you have a fruit infused jar it will make the consistency a little softer
